Privacy policy
Outdoor Pros BC is a directory of outdoor contractors in the Lower Mainland of British Columbia. This page explains what information we collect, why, and what you can ask us to do with it. We follow British Columbia's Personal Information Protection Act.
What we collect
Business listings
Listings come from the business licence records published by the City of Surrey and the Township of Langley (business name, trade, business address and phone number), or from businesses that add themselves. We show the name, trade, area and phone number. We never show the address: many are home addresses.
Contractors who claim a listing
Your name, email, phone number and password (stored scrambled, so nobody can read it, us included), the details and photos you add to your listing, papers you send us to be verified (licence, WorkSafeBC, insurance), and the plan and add-ons you choose. We remove the location data that phones save inside photos before showing them.
Homeowners who ask for a quote
Your name, phone number, email and the details you type in. They go to the contractor you chose, and to no one else, and we email you a copy.
Cookies
We use one cookie, to keep contractors logged in. We don't use advertising or tracking cookies on this site.
How we use it
- To run the directory and show listings.
- To send quote requests to the contractor a homeowner chose.
- To check that the person claiming a listing is the owner, and to verify papers.
- To provide the plans and add-ons a contractor signs up for, and to bill for them.
- To email you about your account: things like password resets and quote requests.
We don't sell or rent anyone's information, and we never sell leads.
Who else handles it
We use a few trusted services to run the site: web hosting, an email service to send messages, and a payment processor (Stripe) for paid plans. Card details go straight to the payment processor; we never see or store them. These services only use the information to do their job for us.
How long we keep it
Listings stay up until the business closes or asks us to remove it. Account details stay while you have an account. Quote requests are kept so the contractor can look back at them. Ask us and we'll delete your information unless we have to keep it by law (for example, billing records).
Your choices
- See or fix your information: contractors can edit their listing any time. For anything else, email us.
- Remove a listing: if it's your business and you don't want to be listed, tell us and we'll remove it.
- Delete your account or a quote request: email us.
